Daniel J. Quinn, 80, a lifelong resident of Scranton died Sunday morning in the Hospice Community Care Inpatient Unit, Dunmore, after a brief illness. He and his wife the former Joan T. Reuther celebrated their 48th wedding anniversary June 4, 2008.
He was born in Scranton, the son of the late Daniel and Mary McDonald Quinn. A member of St. John the Evangelist Church, he attended Scranton Technical High School and graduated from the Johnson School of Technology. He served in the US Army. Prior to retirement he was employed by Tobyhanna Army Depot as a machinist and received several commendations from the Department of Army for dedication to his job.
He was a wonderful and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He was a humble man and gracious about his accomplishments.
The family would like to thank the hospice staff and doctors for the wonderful care that Daniel received.
Also surviving is a daughter, Sheila J. Fortese and her husband Bruce, Dunmore; two brothers, Bernard Quinn and his wife Arlene, Old Forge, Eugene Quinn and his wife Josie, Luxenberg Germany; three sisters, Ann Doran and her husband Frank, Scranton, Elizabeth Kilker and her husband John, Dunmore, Marion Thomas, CT; two grandsons, Vincent Fortese and Dominick Fortese, Dunmore; a sister in law, Rose Quinn, Scranton; two brother in laws, Robert J. Reuther and his wife Marion, Scranton, Edward J Reuther and his wife Margaret, Scranton; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Francis Quinn and Richard "Dick" Quinn.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. from the Miller Bean Funeral Home, Inc., 436 Cedar Avenue, with Mass at 10 a.m. in Saint John the Evangelist Church, Pittston Avenue and Fig Street. Interment, Cathedral Cemetery.
