Betty Meredith Buntz
September 29, 2008
Betty Meredith Buntz, 83, a resident of Scranton, died Monday at the home of her son, Kenneth, under the care of Diakon Hospice Saint John. She was the widow of Jack Buntz, who died June 26, 1990.
She was born in Scranton, the daughter of the late William and Bertha O’Connell Meredith, she was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School. Before her retirement in 1987, she was an executive secretary for Casual Sportswear for many years. Very strong in her faith, she was an active member of Hickory Street Presbyterian Church and the Women of Hickory.
She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Serendipity was her favorite word and she lived her life always focusing on the positive. She was blessed with a wonderful sense of humor and was a joy to be around. She attributed her beautiful singing voice, piano skills, and love of music to her great-grandfather, Henry Diller, who organized the City of Scranton's first band. Her grandchildren have inherited her musical abilities. Besides music, her favorite pastime was gardening.
Surviving are three children, Kenneth and wife Shelley Buntz, Sugarloaf; Alan and wife Ann Buntz, Scranton; and Sheryl and husband Michael Meyers, Reston, VA; a daughter-in-law, Jill Buntz, Waldorf, MD; ten grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins and her dear friend, Paul Scheuch.
She was also preceded in death by a beloved son, David, and a beloved sister, Catherine Miller.
The Funeral will be Thursday from the Miller Bean Funeral Home, 436 Cedar Avenue, Scranton, with Services at 11 a.m. in the Hickory Street Presbyterian Church, 427 Hickory Street. Interment, Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst.
Friends and family may call on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. The family requests that to honor her memory, an act of charity or kindness to someone in need would be most appreciated.
