Ruth E. Jones, 96, lifelong resident of Scranton, died Tuesday morning, in the Green Ridge Health Care Center after a brief illness. She was the widow of William E. Jones, Sr. who died July 1978.
She was born on September 16, 1912 in Scranton, the daughter of the late John T. and Bertha Herman Tierney. She was a member of Saint Matthews United Evangelical Lutheran Church and a graduate of Scranton Technical High School.
She loved all animals, especially her pets. She enjoyed working out crossword puzzles, spending time in her garden and taking care of her plants.
Surviving are a sister Florence Wren, Scranton; a niece, her care giver and friend Jane (Bill) Stevens, Scranton; several nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son, William E. Jones, Jr. and a brother, Jack Tierney.
The funeral will be Friday at 10 a.m. in the Miller Bean Funeral Home, Inc., 436 Cedar Avenue, with Services by the Reverend David A. Searing, pastor of St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church. Interment will be in the Abington Hills Cemetery, South Abington Township.
