She was born in Scranton, the daughter of the late Carl and Mildred Kiefer Schmidt. She was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School and a member of the Hickory Street Presbyterian Church. She served her country by enlisting in the US Army during WWII. She was a member of the CU Club, East Mountain, and prior to retirement she had been employed by the Herff Jones Company.

Surviving are three sons; Gary Gruen, Scranton, Roger Gruen and his wife Marguerite, Old Forge and Lee Gruen and his wife Beverly, Scranton; a grandson, Daniel Gruen, Scranton; nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Carl Schmidt and William Schmidt.

Funeral Services and the interment will be held privately at the convenience of the family. The interment with full military honors will be in Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst.

There will be no public calling hours.
