Marie K. Conte, 88, a lifelong resident of Scranton died Thursday afternoon in the VNA Hospice Inpatient Unit at Community Medical Center after a brief illness. She was the widow of William J. Conte.

She was born December 8, 1919 in Scranton, the daughter of the late Alex and Lillian Schuller Meyers. She was a life long member of St. Mary’s of the Assumption Church and a devoted Catholic. Prior to marriage she was employed at Mother's Laundry in Dunmore.

She was a loving housewife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and aunt, for her whole family, and will be missed by all. She loved her many neighborhood friends and enjoyed their company, conversation's, walks and the care they showed her. Her wish was to thank them all for their friendship. She loved being outdoors with her garden and caring for her potted plants which she cared for from season to season. She truly had a green thumb. Her greatest joy and love were her eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Surviving are two sons, Richard Conte and his wife Joann, Scranton, Robert Conte and his wife Irina, Juneau, AK; eight grandchildren, Renee Canova and her husband Leon, Reading, Amy Swoyer and her husband Andy, Peckville, Dorene Day, Lakeville, Ricky Conte Jr., Scranton, Jessica G'Dovin and her husband Ross, Las Vegas, NV, Karmela Conte, Dallas, Domnick Conte, Dallas, Nikkita Conte, Juneau, AK; seven great grandchildren, Isabella, Gabriella, Deanna, Adrianna, Bradley, Randy, and Aiden, several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a son, William J. Conte, Jr; four brothers, Arthur Meyers, George Meyers, Harold Meyers, Albert Meyers; a sister, Genevieve Zwick.

The funeral will be on Wednesday from the Miller Bean Funeral Home, Inc., with Mass at 9 a.m. in St. Mary's of the Assumption Church, 428 River Street. Interment, Italian American Cemetery, Scranton.
