Henry A. Staples, 79, a Lifelong resident of the East Mountain Section of
Scranton, died Monday morning in Community Hospice Care Inpatient Unit, Dunmore.
His wife, the former Violet E. Shotwell,
died December 23, 2003.
He was born in Scranton, the son of the late Henry and Louise Lucke Staples. He
was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School and a member of the United
Baptist Church, Scranton. He was a
veteran of the Korean War serving with the US Army and a member of the Masonic
Union Lodge. Prior to retirement he was
a self employed contractor and also worked for the PNC Bank in the security and
maintenance departments.
He was a loving father and grandfather who also enjoyed hunting, fishing, making
Welsh cookies and was an avid fan of baseball. His
favorite team was the New York Yankees.
Surviving are two daughters, Susan N. Carpentier and her husband Richard,
Scranton, Jill Stahl and her fiancée Robert Banellis, Clarks Summit; nine
grandchildren, five great grandchildren; nieces, nephews and his dog, Buddy.
He was preceded in death by a son Jay F. Staples, a Lackawanna Deputy Sheriff,
who died on November 30, 2006.
Cremation Services took place at the Maple Hill Crematory, South Hanover
Township.
A Memorial Service will be conducted on Saturday at 11 a.m. in the United
Baptist Church of Scranton, 213 South Main Avenue, Scranton, by the Rev. Earl O.
Cassel, Pastor. The Family will greet friends from
10 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the church
