Wade William John Whetstone

        Wade William John Whetstone, 44, a resident of Jermyn, a former resident of South Scranton, died Saturday in the Moses Taylor Hospital after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.  He and his wife, the former Elizabeth Reitz, would have celebrated their 27th wedding anniversary on July 3, 2009. 

        He was born in Wilmington, DE, the son of Irvin Whetstone, FL, and Joan Kilvitis Whetstone, Scranton.  He was a member of United Methodist Church, Jermyn and a graduate of Scranton Technical High School, Class of 1982.  He was instrumental in the creation of Step in Time Dance Studio, Newton Ransom.  Prior to his illness he worked for 26 years at Allied Fence Company which became Master Halco Fence Company, he enjoyed his work and was “Mr. Fix it all” at Master Halco. 

        He was a loving and caring husband, father, son, grandson, brother godfather and friend.  He enjoyed radio controlled car racing, was an avid Harley Davidson rider and the proud owner of his 1980 Sportster and 1997 Low Rider. 

        The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at the Moses Taylor Hospital for their love and support. 

        Also surviving is a son, Wade Whetstone Jr. and his fiancé Kara Zihala, Mayfield; a daughter, Nicole Marie Whetstone, Jermyn; a maternal grandmother, Mary Kilvitis, Scranton; four brothers, Michael Schmidt and his wife Jennifer, Acre Lake, Joseph Schmidt and his wife Sandra, Acre Lake, Ricky Blanchard and his wife Derley, CA., Wicker Whetstone and his wife Jessie, DE, two sisters, Lisa Kravitz and her husband John, Taylor, Jessica Downing, FL; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, sister and brother in laws. 

        The funeral services will be held on Friday at 12 noon in the Miller Bean Funeral Home, Inc., 436 Cedar Avenue, Scranton. There will be a motorcycle procession following the services to Wade’s interment in the Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst.
