Irene McPhillips, 86, a longtime resident of Scranton, died late Sunday
evening in the VNA Inpatient Hospice Unit at the Community Medical Center.
She was born in Minsk, Russia where she completed her college education
and was employed as a teacher until coming to America in 1950 where she worked
in the garment industry. She was a
volunteer for various charities and organizations.
Prior to retirement she was employed as a
machine operator at Saquoit Silk Mill.
She went home to be with the Lord, she passed away peacefully surrounded
by her loving family.
Surviving are two daughters, Mary Ann McPhillips, Hanover Township and
Linda Smith, Scranton; two grandsons, Christopher McPhillips and Derek Smith
both of Scranton; four great granddaughters.
Private Funeral Services will be held at the convenience of the family. Cremation services will take place at Maple Hill Crematory, Hanover Township. Inurnment will be in the Dunmore Cemetery.
