

Harry E. Caswell

Harry E. Caswell, 77, a resident of Scranton for over 30 years, formerly
a resident of Far Rockaway, NY for 11 years, died Friday afternoon in the Mercy
Hospital Inpatient Unit after a lengthy illness.
He and his wife the former Mary Ann LaPaglia would have celebrated their
47th wedding anniversary on November 10th.
He was born in Brooklyn, NY and raised in East Lemon Township, PA, the
son of the late Harry S. and Alberta M. Dickinson Caswell.
He was of the Episcopal Faith.
While living in Far Rockaway, NY he was
active in the Sea Cadets, the Neighborhood Watch, a volunteer for many church
activities at St. Gertrude’s Church, including bingo and Church Bazaars.
He was also a sergeant in the New York City Auxiliary Police in Far
Rockaway. He had been employed as a
longshoreman on the docks of NY City harbor, as a Sexton for St. Gertrude’s
Church, Far Rockaway, NY and he retired from Angelica Health Care in Scranton.
He loved spending time with his family and especially his grandchildren &
great grandchildren. He enjoyed canning,
hunting and fishing.
Also surviving are a daughter, Alberta Grushinski and her husband Andrew,
Nicholson; five sons, Joseph Caswell, Pittsburgh, Dominick Caswell and his wife
Susan, Scranton, Harry E. Caswell Jr., Scranton, William Caswell and his wife
Donna, Duryea, Robert Caswell and his wife Karen, Olyphant, three brothers,
Edward Caswell, Scranton, Robert Caswell, New York City, Ernest Caswell,
Scranton; over twenty grandchildren and two great grandchildren; many nieces and
nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister Patricia Johnson; two brothers,
William S. Caswell, Joseph Caswell.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Miller Bean Funeral Home,
Inc., 436 Cedar Avenue. Interment, Valley View Cemetery, Montdale.
