Robert F. Moylan, 84, a lifelong resident of the Nativity Section of
Scranton died Thursday afternoon in the Scranton Health Care Center after an
illness.
He was born on March 14, 1925 in Scranton, the son of the late Joseph and
Elizabeth Ernst Moylan. He was a
member of Nativity of Our Lord Parish, a frequent communicant and a member of
the Holy Name Society. He was also devoted to Saint Ann’s Basilica and regularly
attended Novena services. After
graduating from Central High School, Class of 1943, he served in the US Army
during WW II. After his tour of duty
in the armed services he entered the University of Scranton where he received a
Bachelor of Science degree in 1949. He
was a former Vice-President of the Pennsylvania Social Services Union, a member
of AARP and the Pennsylvania Association of retired State employees.
At the time of his retirement in 1985 he had completed 30 years of
service as a caseworker for the Pennsylvania Department of Welfare, Blind
Pension Division.
Surviving is a sister in law, Ruth Moylan, Scranton; a nephew, Joseph
Moylan, Scranton; a niece Jane Sullivan and her husband Tim, Fox Chapel; a great
niece, Meghan Sullivan, Fox Chapel; several cousins.
He was preceded in death by a brother Dr. Joseph E. Moylan who died,
November 10, 2006; a nephew, Thomas Moylan who died April 25, 2001.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 9:30 a.m. in
Nativity of Our Lord Church, 633 Orchard Street.
Interment will follow in Saint Catherine’s Cemetery, Covington Township.
Those attending Mass are asked to go
directly to the church. There will be no public calling hours
