Clayton V. Torbeck

        Clayton V. Torbeck, 78, a long time resident of Scranton, died Wednesday morning in the Gino J. Merli Veterans Center after a brief illness.  His wife the former Barbara Burke died October 21, 2005.

        He was born in Ossining, NY, the son of the late Hellen Vanderbilt Torbeck.  He was a graduate of Ossining High School, Ossining NY and a member of the Hickory Street Presbyterian Church, Scranton.  He enlisted and was proud to serve his county for twenty years with the United States Navy and was a member of the US Navy Boxing Club.  After serving with the US Navy he was employed as an independent contractor by Pepperidge Farms and also worked part time for Lackawanna County Meals on Wheels.  He was a member of the Lackawanna County Blind Association and the Retired Naval Base Blind Association, CT.  After retirement he enjoyed driving for the airport limousine service as a private contractor.

        He was a proud father, grandfather and a caring, giving person who enjoyed people and always made people laugh.  He enjoyed listening to the radio and all type of sports.  He especially loved the San Francisco Giants and Boston Red Sox.

        Surviving are a daughter, Carol Kochis, Scranton; five sons, Kenneth Torbeck, Dallas, Mark Torbeck and his Fiancé Marianne Perry, Coconut Creek, FL,  Bill Torbeck and his wife Kendra Lapsansky, Dunmore, Dave Torbeck and his wife Beth, Melbourne, FL, Mike Torbeck and his wife Cindy, Coconut Creek, FL; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

        He was preceded in death by a brother, William Burke.

        The funeral will be Saturday with services at 11:30 a.m. in the Hickory Street Presbyterian Church, 435 Hickory Street, by the Reverend Tom H. Collins, pastor. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family. Those who will be attending the services are asked to go directly to the Church.

        Friends may call on Saturday from 9 to 11 a.m. in the Miller Bean Funeral Home, Inc., 436 Cedar Avenue.  Memorial contributions can be made in his memory to the Gino J. Merli Veterans Center, 401 Penn Avenue, Scranton, PA 18503-1213 or to the Blind Association of Lackawanna County, 228 Adams Avenue, Scranton, PA 18503-1602.
