Charles J. “Chick” Weber, 78, a lifelong resident of South Scranton died
early Friday morning in the Mercy Hospital.
He and his wife the former Mary Ann Toth celebrated their 56th
wedding anniversary on October 10th.
He was born in Scranton, the son of the late Charles and Ella A. Armbrust
Weber. He was a lifelong member of
the Hickory Street Presbyterian Church, an ordained elder, treasurer for over 30
years and a member of the choir. He
was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School, Class of 1949, and a graduate
of the Institute of Financial Education and had served that organization as past
president of the Northeastern PA Chapter #123 and was a past member of the
Chapters Board of Governors and a past instructor.
He was past treasurer of the Lackawanna
County Savings & Loan League and past secretary of the Northeast PA League of
Savings Associations. He is a
graduate of the University of Georgia’s School of Executive Development and
completed courses at Wilkes College. He
served in the US Naval reserves, as a Yeoman first class with the Surface
Division 4-55, Naval Reserve Training Center. He
was a member of the Scranton Rotary Club, charter member of the South Scranton
Residents Association and past treasurer, a member of the Schiller Lodge #345,
Free and Accepted Masons, the Keystone Consistory, the Irem Temple Shrine, a
member of the Eastern Travelers of Scranton bowling team, the Knights of Pythias
and had been active with fundraising for the United Way and Keystone Junior
College
He began his employment with Citizens Savings Association in 1957 as a
teller and soon took on duties in general ledger and bookkeeping.
In 1962 he became a corporate officer as assistant secretary; in 1968 he
was named treasurer and charged with handling the association’s liquidity
management and investments. He then
was named branch manager in 1969 in the Clarks Summit location until 1973 when
he was named branch manager of the West Scranton office.
He was then appointed to vice
president of marketing and human resources, a position he maintained until his
retirement in 1993.
He was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend who was dedicated to his faith and church. He played saxophone with the Walter Gorecki Band and enjoyed playing the clarinet, was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing with his grandchildren who are following in his footsteps.
The family would like to express a special thank you for the continued
care from Dr. Linda Frantz and the staff at Mercy Hospital.
Also surviving are three daughters, Bonnie L. Farley and her husband
Joseph, Moosic Lake, Wendy Gardas and her husband Jeff, Honesdale, Tammy Lesh,
Scranton; five grandchildren, Joseph Farley, Jordan Farley, Casey Leo, Holly
Lesh and P.J. Lesh; a brother, Norman C. Weber, Seneca, SC; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter Sandra Ann Weber; three
sisters, Romayne Price, Ruth Fetzer and Marilyn Mitchell.
The funeral will be Monday with services at 10 a.m. in the Hickory Street
Presbyterian Church, 435 Hickory Street, by the Reverend Tom H. Collins, pastor.
Interment will follow in Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst.
Those attending the Funeral services on Monday are asked to go directly
to the church.
