Carmen A. Esgro Sr.

        Carmen A. Esgro Sr., 79, a longtime resident of Scranton died Wednesday evening in the Hospice Community Care Inpatient Unit, Dunmore, after a battle with lung cancer.  His wife the former Caroline Theresa Spence died August 8, 1990.

        He was born in Archbald, the son of the late Thomas and Angeline Jardine Esgro.  He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Church, educated in Scranton Public Schools and served in the United States Navy.  He was also a member of the Dante Literary Society and the Bricklayers Union, Local #5.  Prior to retirement he had been employed for 30 years as a masonry restoration estimator for Hartley and Esgro Waterproofing in Scranton.

        He was a devoted family man, whose family was very important to him.  He loved his grandchildren and was very compassionate to others.  He was loved by all who knew him and will be missed.  He will especially miss his card playing buddies. 

        The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at the Moses Taylor Hospital and his care givers at Hospice Community Care and Hospice of the Sacred Heart, for their kind and compassionate care.

         Surviving are his companion and partner with whom he resided, Kathleen Rosenthal, Scranton; a son Carmen A. Esgro Jr., and his wife Betsy of Scranton; two daughters, Carol Ann Lupinski and her husband Alexander Jr. of Throop, Angela Santillo and her husband Vic of Bethlehem; four sisters, Palma Azzarelli, Moosic, Angie Mies, Mountain Top, Theresa Kolodzieksi, Minooka, Josephine Longo, Dunmore; a brother, Dominick Esgro, Moscow; four grandchildren, Lisa Bouselli, Taylor, Christopher Esgro, Scranton, Colin Esgro, Pittsburgh, Caroline Esgro, Scranton; two great grandchildren, Alexandra Bouselli and Nicholas Bouselli, both of Taylor; and numerous nieces and nephews.

         He was preceded in death by a grandson, Alexander J. Lupinski III; three brothers, Frank Esgro, Joseph A. Esgro Sr., Peter Esgro; two sisters, Sally Shiner and Mary Bullaro.

        The Funeral will be Monday at 8:45 a.m. from the Miller Bean Funeral Home, Inc., 436 Cedar Avenue, with Mass at 9:30 a.m. in the St. Francis of Assisi Church., 630 Genet Street Scranton.  Interment will follow in the Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton.

        Friends may call on Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m.  Memorial contributions can be made in his memory to the American Cancer Society, 712 South Keyser Avenue Taylor, PA 18517-9612.
