Lena J. Nelson, a former resident of Dunmore, died Thursday evening in
the Green Ridge Health Care Center, after a battle with cancer.
She was born in Carbondale the daughter of the late Arthur W. and Edna
Austin Nelson. At an early age her family
moved to Scranton. She was a member of
Saint Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Scranton, a graduate of West Scranton
High School and after graduation from high School she went to work at Scranton
Lace works. She then went on to work
for the Bell Telephone Company of Pennsylvania and retired as a supervisor after
35 years of service. She was a member of
the Verizon Telecom Pioneers and a volunteer with the American Red Cross.
Surviving are a brother, Arthur Nelson, Fort Walton Beach, FL; two
nieces, Dianne Giardinelli, Williamstown, NJ and Patricia Hansard, British
Columbia, Canada; other nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Magnus Nelson and Charles
Nelson.
The funeral will be Wednesday with services at 10:00 a.m. in the Miller
Bean Funeral Home, Inc., 436 Cedar Avenue, by the Reverend David A. Searing,
Pastor of Saint Peters Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Interment will follow in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Hallstead.
