Wesley W. Hartman, 90, a lifelong resident of Scranton died late Monday
evening in the Mountain View Care Center after a brief illness.
He and his wife the former Caroline B. Hafner celebrated their 64th
wedding anniversary on April 12, 2009.
He was born in Scranton, the son of the late Charles C. and Anna Marie
Wunderwald Hartman. He was a
lifelong member of the Hickory Street Presbyterian Church.
He served his country, for four years, during World War II with the US
Army’s 17th Field Artillery; he saw duty in Tunisian, Sicily, Naples, Foggia,
Rome, Southern France and Germany. Before
his discharge from the service he was promoted to a Medium Tank Crewman,
securing maximum fire. He was a member of
the American Legion. Major Edward J. Poch Post 948, and a member and past master
of Schiller Lodge # 345, Free and Accepted Masons, a member of the Keystone
Consistory Scottish Rite, Shriners Irem Temple and its Oriental Band.
A member of the, Eastern Travelers Club
and it’s bowling league and the Top Hatters Club.
He retired from a 50 year career in the painting industry as proprietor
of W.W. Hartman and Son Painting and Wall Covering Contractor.
Also surviving are a son, Wesley Hartman and his wife Patricia, Scranton;
two daughters, Carol Morgan, Scranton, Janet Hunt and her husband James,
Scranton; six grandchildren, Jenna Hamilton, Matthew Hunt, Gary Hunt, Carl Hunt,
Wesley Hartman, Gregory Hartman and Jeffrey Hartman; four great grandchildren,
nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Steven Morgan; a son in law James
T. Morgan; three sisters, Jean Gard, Mildred George, Verna Klein; a brother,
Charles C. Hartman.
The funeral will be Monday at 10:30 a.m. in the Miller Bean Funeral Home,
Inc., 436 Cedar Avenue, with Services by the Reverend Tom H. Collins, pastor.
Interment will follow in Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst.
