Don M. Ikeler, 89, a longtime resident or the East Mountain section of
Scranton died Tuesday evening in the Gino J. Merli Veterans Center.
His wife the former Mary T. Arnold died
March 23, 2003.
He was born in Bloomsburg, the son of the late Rudolph and Edith Manning
Ikeler. He was educated in
Bloomsburg public schools, a veteran of WW II serving with the US Army and prior
to retirement he worked at the Pocono Downs Racetrack and Jim Ikeler’s Lounge.
The family would like to thank the staff, nurses and residents at the
Gino J. Merli Veterans Center for all the compassion and care he received.
Surviving are a granddaughter, Jenine J. Ikeler, Dunmore; a grandson,
James G. Ikeler and his wife Vincenza, Staten Island, NY; two sisters, Jean
Reed, and Doris Walters, both of Dallas; two great grandchildren, James Joseph
Ikeler and Giuliana Ikeler; two daughter in laws, Nancy Ikeler, Dunmore and
Marion Ikeler, Scranton; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son James Joseph Ikeler who died June 23,
1992.
The funeral will be Friday in the Miller Bean Funeral Home, Inc., 436
Cedar Avenue, Scranton, with services at 9 a.m. by the Reverend Arthur W. Davis,
pastor of the Asbury United Methodist Church. Interment
will be held privately in Cathedral Cemetery.
