Nancy M. Martin Straka, 75, a resident of Lansdale, a former resident of
Scranton, died Monday evening in the Abington Health Lansdale Hospital, after a
brief illness. She was the widow of
Paul J. Straka who died February 17, 2006. They
celebrated 42 years of marriage on February 1, 2006.
She was born in Pittston, the daughter of the late William J. and Lagora
Cawley Martin. She was a member of the
Corpus Christi Church, Upper Gwynedd, a graduate of Saint Mary’s High School,
Class of 1952, Scranton. After
graduation from high school she worked as a lab technician at Saint Mary’s
Hospital, Scranton and then for Dr. McDonald, as a cardiology technician.
She joined the Naval Reserves where she completed her training in
Quantico, VA and remained a reservist for many years.
She was hired by the Department of the Navy to work as a recruiter at the
Naval Air Station Base, Willow Grove, PA and was employed by Technical Products,
Hatfield, PA, retiring in 1995.
Surviving are a daughter, Michele Turner and her husband Robert,
Lansdale; a sister Betty Delekta, Niagara Falls, NY; two grandchildren, Matthew
Turner and Kaitlyn Turner; a sister in law Loretta Martin, Niagara Falls, NY;
many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a two sisters, Janet Pilger, Marion Hood;
three brothers, Eugene Martin, Francis Martin and William Martin.
The funeral will be Friday at 9:30 a.m. from the Miller Bean Funeral
Home, Inc., 436 Cedar Avenue, Scranton, with Mass at 10 a.m. in the Immaculate
Conception Church, 801 Taylor Avenue, Scranton. Interment
will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
