Ann Pica

        Anna “Ann” Pica, 89, a longtime resident of Scranton, a part time resident of Lehigh Acres, FL died Tuesday evening, after a brief illness.  She was the widow of Joseph P. Pica who died February 3, 2008, at the time of his death they had been married for 71 years.

        She was born June 4, 1920 in Scranton, the daughter of the late Max and Julia Bauman Lucke.  A graduate of Scranton Central High School and a member of Saint Francis of Assisi Church, St. Paul of the Cross Parish, and Saint Raphael Church, Lehigh Acres, FL.  She was a Golden member of the Waldorf Park German-American Federation.  A faithful volunteer at Friends of the Poor working with Sister Adrian Barrett, IHM.  Prior to retirement she had been employed by the Friendship House.

        She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother and aunt who will be deeply missed by her family and friends.  She was an avid reader, enjoyed playing cards especially pinnochle and liked antique shopping.

        The family would like to thank the staff from the Hospice of the Sacred Heart for the kind and loving care they gave to Ann and her family and a special thank you to Lori and Barbara.

        Surviving are a daughter, Patricia Cerra who was her caregiver and whom Ann was living with at the time she passed away, Patricia’s  companion is Leo Murray, Dunmore; four sons, Joseph Pica who was her caregiver when she was living in Florida, and his wife Joan, Lehigh Acres, FL, Richard Pica and his wife Jay, Scranton, David Pica, Scranton, Anthony "Jerry" Pica and his wife Marlene, Scranton; eighteen grandchildren, nineteen great grand children, three great-great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.

        She was preceded in death by an infant son, Dominick Pica; two brothers Clarence Lucke and Rawland Lucke; a great grandson, David Anthony Pica and a daughter in law, Christine Pica.

        The Funeral will be on Friday at 9:30 a.m. from the Miller Bean Funeral Home, Inc., 436 Cedar Avenue, with mass at 10 a.m. in St. Francis of Assisi Church, 630 Genet Street.  Interment will follow in Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst.

        Friends may call Thursday 5 to 8 p.m.  In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions can be made in her memory to The Hospice of the Sacred Heart, 600 Baltimore Drive, Wilkes Barre, PA   18702-7901.
