Edmond H. Abraham

        Edmond H. “Eddie” Abraham, 81, a resident of Scranton died Friday afternoon in the Moses Taylor Hospital.  He and his wife the former Margaret “Peggy” McGroarty would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in August.

        He was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, he moved his family to Scranton in 1972.  He was the son of the late Charles and Afdokia Kahy Abraham.  Edmond attended Haran High School, New York City.  He worked at the American Book Company, New York City, where he met the love of his life, his wife Peggy.  He also worked as a claims agent/loss prevention supervisor in the trucking industry most of his life.  He worked for Johnson Motors Lines, Cooper-Jarrett, Acme Fast Freight and NEPSCA.  After retirement he also worked part time at Marywood University and at Sears in the Viewmont Mall.

        He always took care of his family, and was proud of his Lebanese and Syrian heritage.  He also loved his cats Freddie and Alvin.  Ed was a family man who took his kids to Coney Island, New York, every Sunday, and his son to Shea Stadium for the Mets games.  He and his wife loved to travel visiting family and friends.  He never forgot his childhood trips to Stafford Springs, Connecticut to stay with his relatives.

        The family would like to thank the staff of the Mountain Rest Nursing Home, East Mountain for taking care of Ed for the past six months.

        In addition to his wife Peggy surviving are a daughter, Kathleen Diaz, Scranton; a son Carl Abraham, Scranton; two grandsons, Brian Diaz, Scranton and Shawn Diaz, Philadelphia; a sister in law, Lillian Abraham; nieces, nephews and cousins.

        He was preceded in death by a brother, Carl Abraham; a sister, Olga McDonnell.

        The funeral will be on Tuesday at 11 a.m. from the Miller Bean Funeral Home Inc., 436 Cedar Avenue, with Mass at 11:30 am in the Holy Name of Jesus Church, at the corner of East Elm Street and Froude Avenue.  Interment will follow at the Dunmore Cemetery, Dunmore.

        Friends may call on Monday from 5 to 8 pm.
