Helen Francis Abbott, 78, a lifelong resident of Scranton, died Wednesday
morning in the Abington Manor Nursing Home after an illness.
She was the widow of her first husband Thomas Maines who died in 1954 and
her second husband Robert Abbott who died in 1986.
She was born in Scranton the daughter of the late David and Bertha
Osmolia Howell. She was a member of the
Court Street United Methodist Church.
Prior to retirement she had been employed by the former Quint’s Army and
Navy Store.
She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and aunt.
Surviving are a daughter Helen Helbing and her husband Nelson, Dalton;
three sons, Thomas R. Maines, Scranton, Robert Abbott and his wife Rose Ann,
Scranton, John Abbott and his wife Sue, New Milford; two brothers, Thomas Howell
and his wife Audrey, Joseph Howell; four sisters, Lydia Yuhas, Dora DiGregorio,
Sally Kurtz and Betty Eisenhart; five grandsons, seven grand daughters, eight
great grand children; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a two sisters, Bertha Speck, Mary Davis; six
brothers, Robert Howell, John Howell, David Howell, Charles Howell, Francis
Howell and Joseph Howell.
The funeral will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. in the Miller Bean
Funeral Home, Inc., 436 Cedar Avenue, with services by the Reverend Linda
Eckersley, Pastor of the Court Street United Methodist Church.
Interment will follow in the Marcy
Cemetery, Duryea.
