Norman Mackes Jr., 78, a former resident of South Abington Township, a
current resident of the Lackawanna Health and Rehab Center for the past four
years, died Tuesday morning. He and his
wife the former Florence E. Benjamin celebrated their 51st wedding
anniversary on March 4, 2010.
He was born in Scranton the son of the late Norman and Elizabeth Weeks
Mackes Sr. He graduated from Lackawanna
Junior College with a degree in accounting. He
proudly served his country in Vietnam and was a member of the US Air Force for
22 years. After his service with the US
Air Force he was employed and retired from the Tobyhanna Army Depot.
He was surrounded by his family, when he went home to be with the Lord.
He was a loving husband, father,
grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.
Also surviving are a son, Carl Van Mackes, Scranton; three daughters,
Ellen Coleman and her husband Kevin, Scranton, Donna Barron and her husband
Walter “Butch”, Scranton, Sandra Polkowski, Scranton; two sisters, Elizabeth
Jean Depew and her husband Russell, Scranton, Beverly Anne Mackes, Scranton; two
brothers, Robert Mackes and his wife Janice, VA, Kenneth Mackes, VT; seven
grandchildren, eight great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son and daughter, Robert Mackes and June
Mackes, whom were twins; a grandson, Scott Barron.
The funeral will be held on Friday at 9:30 a.m. in the Miller Bean
Funeral Home, Inc., 436 Cedar Avenue, with services by the Reverend Josefina
Santiago Perez, pastor of the Myrtle Street United Methodist Church.
Interment will follow in the Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst.
