James Michael Walsh

        James Michael Walsh, 67, a resident of Scranton, died Tuesday morning in the VNA Inpatient Hospice Unit at the Community Medical Center after a brief illness.

        He was born and raised in Scranton, the son of the late Robert J. and Elva M. Biggs Walsh.  He was a member of Saint Patrick’s Church and was a charter member of the Father Patrick Healey Division 6 of the Ancient Order of Hibernians and presently held the office of Treasurer.  He was on the board of directors of the Forum Towers and a graduate Scranton Central High School.  After High School he served with the US Navy, after his service to his country he graduated from Hunter College, New York, NY and The State University of New York where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree.  He worked in New York, NY at the New York City Community College as an Adjunct Professor, the New York State Institute of Mental Retardation as a research Scientist and at various hospitals and clinics as a radiologic, CT and nuclear technologist when he retired he returned to Scranton.

        He loved life and lived it to the fullest.  He had won the first battle with cancer 23 years ago but lost the rematch.  The family would like to thank Dr. Michael Alocci, Dr. Wayne Weston, Dr. Michael Burke, Dr. Richard Emanuelson and the staff at Allied Rehab and Skilled Nursing.

        Surviving are three brothers, Robert L. Walsh and his wife Evelyn, Scranton, Thomas J. Walsh and his wife Maryjane, Pace, FL, David Walsh and his wife Linda, Scranton; a sister, Patricia A. Haggerty, Gouldsboro; he had many nieces and nephews that he loved as his own; aunts, uncles and cousins.

        The funeral will be Friday at 9:30 a.m. from the Miller Bean Funeral Home, Inc., 436 Cedar Avenue, with mass at 10 a.m. in Saint Patrick’s Church, 1403 Jackson Street.  Interment will be in the Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton.

        Friends may call on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m.  Memorial contributions can be made in his memory to the American Cancer Society, 712 South Keyser Avenue, Taylor, PA 18517-9612.
