Ralph A. Prall

        Ralph A. Prall, 72, a lifelong resident of Scranton died Monday morning in the VNA Inpatient Hospice Unit at Community Medical Center; after a long illness with lung disease.  He and his wife the former Nancy L. Schmidt celebrated their 46th wedding anniversary on August 22, 2010.

        He was born in Scranton, the son of the late William and Violet Harmer Prall.  He attended Scranton Public Schools, was a member of the Twentieth Ward Social and Athletic Club and was vice president of the IAM local #2305, Department of Public Works.  In his early years he worked for the Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company in the Bakery and for the Sonny Bakery.  He retired after 40 years of service with the City of Scranton, Department of Public Works as a pack master operator.

        He was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle and friend who was always concerned about everyone before himself.  He was a dedicated friend who enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid hunter, fisherman and gardener.

        The family would like to thank Dr. Serine, Dr. Alocci, Dr. Cali, Dr. Weston, the nurses at Community Medical Center and the nurses in the VNA Inpatient Unit at Community Medical Center for the wonderful care he received.

        Also surviving are two daughters, Robin L. Prall, Springville, NY, Randi Romano, Scranton; a brother, William Prall and his wife Bonnie, Scranton; two sisters, Diane Rutkowski and her husband Richard, Scranton, Barbara Hines and her husband Harry, Wellsboro; five grandchildren, Jamie, Eric, Jacqui, Kayla and Brooke; three great grandchildren, Mitchell, Madelyn and Autumn; many nieces and nephews.

        The funeral will be held on Friday at 10 a.m. in the Miller Bean Funeral Home, Inc., 436 Cedar Avenue with services by the Reverend Bette J. Poe, pastor of Saint Paul’s United Methodist Church.  Interment will follow in the Dunmore Cemetery, Dunmore.


        Friends may call on Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m.  Memorial contributions can be made in his memory to the VNA Hospice and Home Health of Lackawanna County, 301 Delaware Avenue, Olyphant, PA. 18447-1531.
