Richard Shope Sr., 66, a resident of Scott Township died Tuesday evening
in the Mid Valley Hospital Emergency Department shortly after arrival.
He and his wife the former Frances Ann
Conte celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary December 6th.
He was born in Scranton, the son of the late Audrey Martin Kraycer.
He attended Scranton Technical High School and was a veteran of the
Vietnam War serving with the US Army. He
was a supporter of Saint Jude’s and the St. Francis of Assisi Food Kitchen.
Prior to retirement he worked as an
independent truck driver and also employed by Sandvik Steel.
He was an avid sports fan who enjoyed NASCAR, Notre Dame College
Football, the Giants football and the Lakeland Chiefs High School football.
Also surviving are a son, Richard D. Shope Jr., and his wife Kristin,
Scott Township; a daughter, Kerry Kutch, Jessup; a stepson, Jeffery Stine and
his wife Amy, Scranton; six grandchildren, Emily Shope, Scott Township, Brittany
Kutch, Jessup, Jamie, Nicole, Kristina and Jordan all of Scranton; an aunt,
uncle, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Friday at 6 p.m. in the Miller Bean Funeral
Home, Inc., 436 Cedar Avenue, with services by the Reverend Arthur W. Davis,
pastor of the Asbury United Methodist Church.
Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
