Eugene Kelly

        Eugene F. Kelly, 71, a longtime resident of Taylor died Sunday evening in the Mercy Hospital Inpatient Hospice Unit after a brief illness.  He and his wife the former Beverly A. Knapp celebrated their 48th wedding anniversary on August 25, 2010.

        He was born and raised in South Scranton, the son of the late William McKinley and Mary Kennedy Kelly.  He was a member of the National Guard for eleven years and in his early career he was a billboard poster, he then worked for Dunmore Bank and retired from Cinram Manufacturing.

        His wife was the love of his life and he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.  He enjoyed storytelling, laughing and loved to make others laugh.

        Also surviving are seven children, Brian R. Kelly and his wife Tammy, Whidbey Island, Washington State, Kathleen M. Bowers and her husband Kevin, Scranton, Deborah J. Vullo and her husband Phil, Dalton, Kevin M. Kelly, Taylor, Kimberly A. Griffiths and her husband Keith, Scranton, Christine E. Kelly, Taylor , Suzanne P. Piasecki and her husband Michael, Taylor; a brother, Jack Kelly, Albuquerque, NM; sixteen grandchildren, Holly Kelly, Leah Pool, Branden Kelly, Benjamin Bowers, Alan Roche, Shelby Roche, Lillian Kelly, Jake Kelly, Keith Griffiths Jr., Amanda Griffiths, Courtney Piasecki, Michael Piasecki Jr., Stephen Piasecki, Samantha Piasecki, Adam Piasecki, and Grace Piasecki, nieces and nephews.

        He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Kaitlyn Bowers; a brother, William McKinley Kelly; two sisters, Mary Naher, Dorothy Lane.

        The funeral will be Friday at 10 a.m. in the Miller Bean Funeral Home, Inc., 436 Cedar Avenue, with services by the Reverend Tom H. Collins, pastor of the Hickory Street Presbyterian Church.  Interment will follow in Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst.

        Friends may call on Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made in his memory to the Mercy Hospice, 746 Jefferson Avenue Scranton, PA 18510-1624 or to the Griffin Pond Animal Shelter, 967 Griffin Pond Road, South Abington Township, PA 18411-9214 or the donor’s favorite charity.
