Eleanor Catherine Toman, a lifelong resident of Scranton died early
Sunday morning under the care of Sacred Heart Hospice at Mountain View Care
Center. She and her husband, Samuel
E. Toman celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on January 2, 2011 with a
family cruise.
She was born in Scranton; the eldest of eight children born to the late
Alice and James O’Boyle, she was educated in the Scranton Schools and a member
of the Saint John Neumann Parish.
Eleanor was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt who
tirelessly took care of her family.
She will be greatly missed by everyone who knew and loved her.
Surviving are two daughters, Linda Derenick and husband, Stephen, Sharon
McNamara; a son Thomas Toman and wife, Rachel; daughter-in-law, Sharon Toman,
all of Scranton; grandchildren, Laura McCarthy and husband Barry, Jenkintown,
John Shandra and wife Carrie, Huntington, NY, Colleen McNamara, Washington, DC,
Stephanie Shandra, Kingston, PA, Jeffrey Toman, Philadelphia, William McNamara,
Rochester, NY, Samuel Toman III, and Ryan Toman, both of Scranton;
great-grandchildren, Reagan, Maeve and Finn McCarthy.
She is also survived by a brother, James O’Boyle, Scranton; sister, Anne
Flynn and husband, Neil, Fort Lauderdale, FL; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her son, Samuel E. Toman II; three brothers
William, Joseph and Robert O’Boyle; two sisters Jean Snyder and Mary Alice
Neuman.
The funeral and interment will be private at the convenience of the
family. There will be no public
calling hours.
