Paul A. Scheuch Sr.

        Paul A. Scheuch, Sr., 85, a lifelong resident of Scranton died Tuesday morning in the Moses Taylor Hospital.  His wife the former Olga Roback died January 31, 2003.

        He was born in Scranton the son of the late Charles D. and Wilhelmina Heier Scheuch.  He was a member of the Hickory Street Presbyterian Church and the Men of Hickory.  He was a graduate of Scranton Central High School and served during WWII with the United States Coast Guard.  He played professional baseball for the Philadelphia Phillies and the Chicago Cubs organizations; he was inducted into the Northeast Chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame, the Chick Feldman Scranton Hall of Fame and the 2000 All Hyde Park Athletic Association Hall of Fame.  He coached many tournament basketball teams including coached Post 948 to the Pennsylvania State American Legion Championship in 1966 and was awarded the Community Service award for the District 11 American Legion.  Prior to retirement he was employed as an inspector by the Trane Corpration.

        The family would like to thank Dr. J. Bruce Ruppenthal, the staff at Abington Manor and Allied Terrace Assisted living for all their wonderful care.  The family would also like to thank Paco Peters and Cathy Callen of Allied for all their help and care.

        Surviving are four sons, Paul A. Scheuch, Jr., and his wife Nan, Waverly, Wayne Scheuch, Venice, CA., Gary Scheuch and his wife Rose, Kingston, Randy Scheuch and his wife Amy, Reeders; seven grandchildren, Trevar, Dustin, Tyler, Casey, Madison, Allen and Katie; two great grandchildren, Sophia and Lucas; several nieces and nephews.

        He was preceded in death by three brothers, Harold Scheuch, Charles Scheuch and Robert Scheuch.

        The funeral will be Monday at 10 a.m. in the Miller Bean Funeral Home, Inc., 436 Cedar Avenue, with services by the Reverenced Tom H. Collins, pastor of the Hickory Street Presbyterian Church.  Interment will follow in the Dunmore Cemetery, Dunmore.

        Friends may call on Sunday from 4 to7 p.m.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made in his memory to the Greater Scranton YMCA, 706 North Blakely Street, Dunmore, PA 18512-1937 or to the donor’s favorite charity.
