Robert G. Brandt, 95,
previously from East Scranton, died Saturday night at the Regional Hospital of
Scranton. He was the husband of the
late Rosella Kobar Brandt, who died June 12, 1992.
He was a resident of the Gino Merli Veterans Center, Scranton since
November 2009.
Born in Scranton on August
19, 1916, he was the son of the late William P. and Mary Elizabeth Hafner
Brandt, and a lifelong member of the Hickory Street Presbyterian Church,
Scranton. He graduated from Technical
High School in June, 1934, served with the United States Army
from 1939 to 1945 as a Master Sergeant in
Ordnance during World War II. Served in
the European Theater of Operations receiving the Good Conduct Medal; American
Defense Service Medal, European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with four
Bronze Stars. Prior to retirement in
1981, he was employed as the maintenance supervisor for the Grove Textiles and
Schautz Stadium, Dunmore, PA.
He is a member of the
American Legion, Moscow, Veterans of Foreign Wars, McHugh Bushweller Post 3474,
Ukrainian Fraternal Association, president of the East Scranton Social Club,
former stockholder and member of the Wildwood Park Outing Club and the oldest
member of the German-American Federation Association (Waldorf Park).
He celebrated his 95th birthday at the Tiki at Waldorf Park on
August 19th.
Bob will be remembered for
his extraordinary wit, kindness, and as someone who loved and lived life to the
fullest. Up until August 21st
he looked forward going to Waldorf Park everyday chatting and joking with
friends. He was an avid fisherman,
hunter, pool player, solving daily crossword puzzles and was the Ring Board
Champion of 1939 for Lackawanna County.
Surviving are two
daughters, Rosemary Notz and husband, Dr. Robert Notz, Danville; Linda Aebli,
Scranton, with whom he resided prior to moving to the Gino Merli Veterans
Center; four grandchildren, Mark Aebli, Corey Aebli, Kristen Notz Reinheimer and
husband Wells, and Gregory Notz and wife Michaelyn; two great-granddaughters
Anna O’Brien Aebli and Savannah Nicole Notz, and son-in-law, Gary Aebli,
Scranton, several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death
by two brothers, William P. Brandt, Jr. and Russell H. Brandt; a sister, Dorothy
Brandt Wickel.
Bob’s family would like to
thank the staff of the Gino Merli Veteran’s Center for their kindness and care
during his stay.
The funeral will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Miller Bean Funeral Home, Inc., 436 Cedar Avenue, Scranton, PA 18505-1196, with services by Reverend Tom H. Collins, pastor of the Hickory Street Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in Fairview Memorial Park immediately following the service. Friends may call on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hickory Street Presbyterian Church, 435 Hickory Street, Scranton, Pennsylvania 18505-1113.
