Joseph C. Ryder

        Joseph C. Ryder, 81, a resident of the East Mountain Section of Scranton and a lifelong resident of Scranton, died Thursday afternoon in the Regional Hospital of Scranton, shortly after arrival.  He and his wife the former Annamae Durkin celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary on July 10th

        He was born in Scranton, the son of late Daniel P. and Anne V. Duggan Ryder.  He was a member of the Saint John Neumann Parish, a graduate of Scranton Technical High School and Penn State University Extension.  Joe was member of the East Mountain Residents Association and a veteran of the Korean War serving with the United States Army.  He worked for Metropolitan Life Insurance and retired from Penn Security Bank and Trust Company.

        He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle and friend who will be dearly missed.  He was an avid college football fan, especially of the Penn State College Nittany Lions; he enjoyed watching the games with his family and friends.

        Also surviving are two daughters, Joanne Scanlon and her husband James, Clarks Summit, Mari Ryder Regan, Raleigh, NC; a son, James Ryder and his wife Marianne, Clarks Summit; six grandchildren, Colleen Mullally and her husband Bill, North Andover, MA, James Scanlon and his wife Heather, Spotsylvania, VA, Shawn Regan, Raleigh, NC, Connor Regan, Raleigh, NC, Lauren Ryder, Clarks Summit, Tom Ryder, Clarks Summit; two great grandchildren, Liam Mullally and Dylan Mullally; nieces and nephews.

        He was preceded in death by two sisters, Eileen F. Ryder, Jean Rosar; three brothers, Thomas Ryder, Attorney Richard Ryder and John "Jack" Ryder.

        The funeral will be Tuesday at 9 a.m. from the Miller Bean Funeral Home, Inc., 436 Cedar Avenue, with mass of Christian burial at 9:30 a.m. in the Holy Name of Jesus Church, at the corner of East Elm Street and Froude Avenue, East Mountain.  Interment will follow in the Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton.

        Friends may call on Monday from 5 to 8 p.m.
