Ernest Douglas Jr., 89, a resident of Scranton
died peacefully early Friday morning in Allied Skilled Nursing Center.
He was preceded in death by his first wife
Theodora “Teddy” Myers Douglas and is survived by his second wife Gwendlyn Jones
Strader Douglas; they celebrated eighteen years of marriage on July 24th.
Born in Uniontown, PA, son of the late Ernest
and Essie Smith Douglas, he graduated from Uniontown High School and served
honorably in the U.S. Army as a Drayman in World War II.
Ernest moved to Scranton as a young adult to
work with his uncle the late Granville T. Smith at G.W. Brown Trucking Company.
After
the closing of G.W. Brown Trucking he continued to work as a mechanic on A&P
Grocery Stores fleet of trucks until his retirement.
The family would like to thank the staff at
Allied Skilled Nursing Center for their kindness toward Ernest these last two
months.
Also surviving are four step children, John
Strader and his wife Dannette, Lansdale, Jeffrey Strader, Scranton, Cathy
Hardaway and her husband Alfred, Newton Township, Patricia Dixon and her husband
Joseph, Fulton, MD; an aunt, Dorothy Smith, Teaneck, NJ; ten grandchildren, ten
great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a stepson, Weston
Strader.
The funeral will be Tuesday with services at 10
a.m. in the Miller Bean Funeral Home, Inc., 436 Cedar Avenue. Interment will be
private.
