Joseph P. Burke, 69, a resident of Woodbridge,
VA died Tuesday in the Carolyn Croxton Slane Hospice, Harrisburg.
He was born in Scranton, the son of late Joseph
and Anna Doriscavith Burke.
He
was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School Class of 1960 and had served in
the US Army Reserves with the 109th Battalion.
He retired from General Dynamics after over 30
years of employment.
Joe spent the last 8 years living in
Woodbridge, VA where he frequented Civil War battlefields one of his many
interests.
His other passions included reading, adventure,
nature, hiking, painting, drawing and taking notes on life.
A master storyteller and debater, he loved
nothing better than entertaining friends and family with elaborate and
thought-provoking tales.
Above all of this, he was a loving father and
devoted grandfather to all his grandchildren.
Grandpa Joe was a favorite for playing and
being silly.
He will be greatly missed by all.
Surviving are a son, Gerald Burke, San
Francisco, four daughters, Kelly A. McGarry and her husband Randy, North Wales,
Christine Burke-Halpert and her husband Rob, Mechanicsburg, Cassandra B.
Callahan and her husband Brian, Harrisburg, Courtney M. Coady and her husband
Joseph, Audubon, NJ; two brothers, Gerald Burke, Scranton, Jack Connolly,
Scranton; a sister, Kay Connolly, Scranton; his friend and former wife, Gloria
Brzenski Burke, Harrisburg; eight grandchildren, Patrick Halpert, Connor
Halpert, Meghan McGarry, Grace McGarry, Clare Burke Callahan, Finlay Joseph
Callahan, Kady Coady, Kerrigan Coady and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be on Wednesday in the Miller
Bean Funeral Home, Inc., 436 Cedar Avenue, with a blessing service at 10 a.m.
Interment will be private.
