Louise Ellard

        Louise Ellard, a lifelong resident of Scranton died Sunday morning at home after a long battle with cancer.  She was the widow of William Ellard who died August 17, 2006.

        She was born in Scranton, the daughter of the late William W. and Bertha E. Christmas Wirth.  She was an active member of the Covenant Presbyterian Church, a graduate of Scranton Central High School and Lackawanna Business College and a member of W.A.R. Sorority.  Prior to raising her children she was employed by the Chamber of Commerce.

        She was a loving, caring, and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister and friend.

        In her youth she enjoyed ice skating at Nay Aug Park, where she met her husband.  She loved to bake, knit, walk around Lake Scranton, had a passion for reading novels until the wee hours of the morning, and all the card games that were played with her family, especially her grandchildren on Sunday afternoon.

        The entire Ellard and Wirth family would like to thank Dr. Thomas Majernick and his staff, the doctors at Hematology and Oncology Associates of NEPA and their staff, Asceracare Hospice in all the love, care and support they had given to Louise and her family.

        Surviving is a daughter, Cindy L. Walsh and her husband James P., Olyphant; two sons, David B. Ellard, Scranton, William A. Ellard and his wife Donna J., Dunmore; a brother, Charles Wirth and his wife Mary Lee, Clarks Green; three grandchildren, William C. Ellard, Rebecca K. Ellard and James P. Walsh II; many nieces and nephews.

        She was preceded in death by two sisters, Elizabeth Davis and Barbara Hill.

        The funeral will be Wednesday at 10:30 from the Miller Bean Funeral Home, Inc., 436 Cedar Avenue with funeral and committal services at11 a.m. in the Covenant Presbyterian Church, 550 Madison Avenue with services by the Reverend Scott Loomer, pastor.  Interment will be private in the Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst.

        Friends may call on Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made in her memory to the Covenant Presbyterian Church, 550 Madison Avenue, Scranton, PA. 18510-2402.
