Russell Niles Miller

        Russell Niles Miller, 87, a resident of Scranton, died late Monday evening in the VNA Hospice Inpatient Unit at Community Medical Center.  He and his wife the former Florence Blake celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary on December 29th.

        He was born in Carbondale, the son of the late John and Bertha Rencavange Miller.  He attended Scranton Technical High School, was a member of Saint Peter’s Cathedral and a member of the church choir.  He was a former member of the Holy Name of Jesus Church, a veteran of WW II serving with the United States Navy and a member of the American Legion Post #0920.  He bowled with the Senior Citizens Bowling League at the South Side Lanes.  Prior to retirement he was employed by Owens Illinois.

        Also surviving are nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins.

        He was preceded in death by two sisters, Eleanor Valensky and Evelyn Jones; a brother, Kenneth Miller.

        A memorial mass will be celebrated on Monday at 9:30 a.m. in St. Peter’s Cathedral, 315 Wyoming Avenue.  Inurnment will follow in Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton.

        There will be no public calling hours.  Those attending the memorial mass are asked to go directly to the church.  Memorial contributions can be made in his memory to the Saint Peter’s Cathedral Choir, 315 Wyoming Avenue, Scranton, PA 18503-1237 or the Griffin Pond Animal Shelter, 967 Griffin Pond Road, South Abington Township, PA 18411-9214.
